Die Stele ist gleichsam das Grundelement unserer Arbeit. Stelen stehen unbehandelten Rebstöcken am nächsten. Als Figur betrachtet, weisen sie höchsten Abstraktionsgrad auf. Sich darunter eine Art Lebewesen vorzustellen, ist aufwändig, bei einem Vierbeiner ist es viel einfacher.
The stele is the basic element of our work, in a way. Stelae are the closest thing to untreated vines. When viewed as a figure, they are highly abstract. It is difficult to imagine a kind of living creature depicted by a stele, it is much easier to do the same with a quadruped.
Drei Stelen stehen unterhalb und ein Vierbeiner begleitet von einem Einbeiner oberhalb des Feldwegs zum Grappen. Die untere Gruppe erscheint eher abstrakt, die andere eher figürlich. Dazwischen läuft die staubige Landstrasse, auf der wir einer ungewissen Zukunft entgegenlaufen.
Three stelae stand below the farm track to Grappen and a quadruped accompanied by a monopod above. The lower group appears rather abstract, the other more figurative. In between runs the dusty lane on which we are heading towards an uncertain future.
Der Vierbeiner oberhalb des Wegs macht einen verklemmten Eindruck. Der schräge Einbeinige legt sich in die Kurve, entwickelt dadurch eine unheimliche Dynamik, die tapfer der Schwerkraft trotzt. Irgendwie fürchtet man sich um ihn. Aber er ist nur die Darstellung einer Gestalt mittels einer Figur aus Rebstöcken, nicht die Gestalt selber. Die entsteht erst in unserer Vorstellungswelt. Die gestalten wir selber.
The four-legged friend above the path makes an uptight impression. The lopsided monopod leans into the bend, developing an eerie dynamic that bravely defies gravity. Somehow you are afraid for him. But he is only the representation of a character in the form of a sculpture made of vines, not the character itself. This only arises in our imagination. We create it ourselves.
Klondike und Quinten sind beides Sehnsuchtsorte.
Ab 1896 war Klondike das magische Wort für Goldgräber und andere Abenteurer. Der Name steht für die Sehnsucht, auf Schatzsuche, auf Entdeckungsreise zu gehen. Quinten steht für die Sehnsucht nach der heilen Welt, nach paradiesischer Ruhe, Schäferidylle und Überschaubarkeit.
The Klondike and Quinten are both longed-for places.
From 1896, Klondike was the magic word for gold diggers and other adventurers. The name stands for the longing to go on a treasure hunt, a voyage of discovery. Quinten stands for the longing for the unspoilt world, for the peace and quiet of paradise, the shepherd’s idyll and a manageable size.
